This is a set of three cross stitch patterns, based on extracts from a Bristol Orphanage sampler stitched by Ada Violet Haxby in 1885. The patterns could be made up into a pin drum and cushions as illustrated in the photos or as small pictures. The patterns are done in full cross stitch and can be stitched on linen or aida.

Ada Violet sewed a sampler with many characteristics common to Bristol Orphanage Samplers, such as the rows of alphabets, numbers and borders, but she also included a squirrel! I have selected some of my favourite motifs from Ada Violet's sampler to make the pin drum and cushions.

I really enjoyed researching the story of Ada Violet and her family, how she ended up in the Bristol Orphanage, and the life she made afterwards, and the price includes a separate pdf which includes Ada's story alongside the pattern.
